A look ahead to BSLM 2022

Dear Members,
Hopefully you have all now seen our September conference speaker line-up. Before saying a word about the programme I thought it only right and proper to say a couple of words about Tottenham Hotspur. No, not those two words if you are an Arsenal fan!
From the first time we spoke to Tottenham they have been completely on board with everything we do at BSLM, but in particular around physical activity, nutrition and mental health. To facilitate the conference they have given us a preferential deal that has meant that we were able to consider them as a venue. As a charity we need to be very careful around how and where we spend the charities money, so rest assured that despite the London venue, we are not being reckless with the finances! A huge thanks to Tottenham Hotspur football club for supporting the BSLM 2022 conference.
Incidentally, tickets are now selling fast, so please buy your tickets now to avoid disappointment. We only have a capacity of 700 delegates, so don’t leave it too long. You can purchase tickets here.
We are thrilled to welcome back BSLM supporters such as Tim Spector, and welcome new contributors like Sir Muir Gray, Professor James Mackey, Professor Sir Ian Gilmore, and Professor Martin Marshall. Of course there are many more excellent contributors, including Professor Gerry McCartney from a Wellbeing Economy perspective, and a host of BSLM alumni. As ever we will have Internationally representation from our colleagues at the European Lifestyle Medicine Council, and the Lifestyle Medicine Global Alliance, to get that important international perspective on LM.

There will be a particularly interesting, and dare I say controversial, debate around so called punishment taxes, such as the sugar tax. You will be able to ask questions via the App as per last year, and we will have a live poll to gauge BSLM members views of such taxes. I have my questions ready to go!
This year’s conference theme is community engagement, so the main programme will as ever be thought provoking and often challenging. I am particularly looking forward to the afternoon parallel sessions, where we will look at LM in practice. Sessions will include MSK and Pain, Community Engagement, Women’s Health, Health and Wellbeing for Healthcare Professionals, and LM in practice; some case studies about what members are doing to practice LM.
We will also have the opportunity to showcase our up and coming educational offerings, with new Learning Academy clinical director Dr Kate Woolley, and examining the activities of the SIG’s.
As a final reminder, please do join us at our conference dinner on Friday evening, with after dinner presentation by Dr George McGavin; TV naturalist and activist. We have a capacity of 250 this year, and if last years dinner in Edinburgh is anything to go by, tickets will sell fast. Unfortunately we had a lot of disappointed delegates last year who tried to book in the last week before the event. Tickets will be going live very soon, so as soon as you see the comms on social media, if you want to come, book immediately to avoid disappointment.
Its going to be a full and enjoyable event this year, as ever. It was my first BSLM conference last year and it felt as though I didn’t have a second to mingle, so this year I hope to be able to meet a lot more of you for a chat.
I hope to see you in London in September.
Best Wishes
Fraser
