About Catherine Itsiopoulos

Catherine is a Professor of Nutrition and Dietetics at RMIT University in Australia and brings an extensive background of over 30 years in clinical, health service, research and academic leadership roles. Notable positions include serving as Associate Deputy Vice Chancellor and Executive Dean of RMIT Health, Vice President of the Mediterranean Lifestyle Medicine Institute, board member of the Australasian Society of Lifestyle Medicine, and inaugural Chair of the International Scientific Advisory Committee of the Olive Wellness Institute.
In her research, Catherine concentrates on randomised controlled clinical intervention studies in diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and the metabolic syndrome, utilising the Mediterranean diet as an intervention model. Her expertise lies in exploring the therapeutic potential of the traditional Mediterranean diet in preventing and managing various health issues. With over 150 scientific publications to her name, Catherine is a widely recognised authority, regularly presenting her work both nationally and internationally. She has authored four books on the Mediterranean diet, including the recently launched The Modern Mediterranean Diet, co-written with daughter Vivienne Koutsis.
