Lifestyle Medicine ‘Food & Mood’ Masterclass: From Evidence to Implementation

BSLM and the Food & Mood Academy are teaming up for a collaborative in-person event, followed by a practical online ‘Review, Reflect, Reset’ session to ensure successful application of your learning

Join us for a full-day workshop on the essentials of Lifestyle & Nutritional Psychiatry, a collaborative event featuring world-leading researchers and clinicians from the Food & Mood Centre at Deakin University, the British Society for Lifestyle Medicine, and a panel of invited experts. This event will highlight the critical role of lifestyle – particularly diet – in mental and brain health. It will provide practical tools and evidence-based insights to help mental health professionals integrate diet- and lifestyle-based strategies into their treatment plans.

Following the in-person session, participants of the Masterclass will be invited to opt in to a follow-up online session approximately six months after the event.

“Review, Reflect, Reset” is an activity we have included as part of our commitment to lasting impact and continued professional growth.
This session offers a structured opportunity to revisit the key learnings and goals set during the Masterclass, reflect on progress in applying new knowledge and strategies in clinical practice, and share insights or challenges with peers. It’s a chance to reconnect, exchange ideas, and, if needed, reset intentions to support ongoing, evidence-informed care. This optional session is designed to help participants stay on track and make the most of the learnings and professional connections in the months beyond the event.

Maximum 120 guests to allow for direct engagement with speakers and interactive learning – get your tickets early to avoid disappointment. Tea/Coffee & nutritious lunch included. The day will be recorded and all those registered will receive a copy post event

The Deakin University Food and Mood Centre is focused on expanding the important research in the new field of Nutritional Psychiatry to discover risk factors and develop solutions to mental health problems using dietary and nutritional strategies.

This is the only such research centre in the world and this unique event will give a select number of attendees a one off intense and concentrated educational experience led by Professor Felice Jacka & other global experts in the rapidly evolving field of nutritional psychiatry. (new line – sorry won’t let me enter) Professor Jacka has been responsible for the development of the highly innovative and impactful field of ‘Nutritional Psychiatry’, establishing diet as a risk factor and treatment target for mental disorders.

The results of the studies she has led including the landmark SMILES trial) have been highly influential, being cited in more than 100 policy documents globally (e.g., WHO, UNICEF) and influencing clinical guidelines in psychiatry in Australia and elsewhere.

She is widely recognized as international leader in the field of Nutritional Psychiatry research and is an ISI Highly Cited Researcher (2020-2024 inclusive), putting her in the top 0.1% of publishing scientists worldwide for impact. In 2021 she was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for her services to Nutritional Psychiatry.

She has written two books for commercial publication, including the very popular children’s book “There’s a Zoo in my Poo”.
