Cancer and Mindfulness Workshop

People who have had cancer, their carers and healthcare professionals looking after them have to deal with a lot of stress. Mindfulness practices can help reduce stress and improve quality of life. In this session we will look at what is mindfulness, why mindfulness, and how it works, with special reference to cancer. We will do some meditation practices and discuss practical ways of bringing mindfulness to our daily life.

People who have had cancer, their carers and healthcare professionals looking after them have to deal with a lot of stress. Mindfulness practices can help reduce stress and improve quality of life. Mindfulness offers us a way of relating differently to our struggles. These may not necessarily go away but by learning to be with them more gently things can feel easier and steadier.

In this session we will look at what is mindfulness, why mindfulness, and how it works, with special reference to cancer. We will do some meditation practices and discuss practical ways of bringing mindfulness to our daily life. You will also be signposted to resources to help deepen your practice.

We are extremely grateful to our Oncology Co-Lead Dr Shubhada (Shub) Suri for offering to hold a Mindfulness and Cancer workshop.

Shub is a qualified mindfulness teacher who trained at the Centre for Mindfulness Research and Practice (CMRP), University of Bangor, Wales to teach the MBSR (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction) course and Mindfulness Based Interventions. She retired as a GP Partner and Trainer in July 2024.

She has also trained to deliver the MBCT (Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy for Cancer) from the Oxford Mindfulness Foundation.
She has a website justobe.co.uk with her husband and they continue to successfully deliver mindfulness sessions/courses to reduce stress and improve wellbeing for doctors, NHS staff and patients.

It is free to attend the workshop, but Shub has suggested that those attending might like to make a donation to BSLM. Should you wish to do so, please click on our Just Giving link here or below:
