The British Society of Lifestyle Medicine warmly welcomes the launch of the UK Society of Medical Longevity (UKSML) and the growing focus on helping people live not simply longer, but healthier lives.
For almost a decade, BSLM has worked to advance evidence-based Lifestyle Medicine across the UK, developing education, professional standards and a strong community of healthcare professionals. We look forward to bringing that experience to the evolving conversation around longevity and healthy ageing.
As this field grows, maintaining the highest standards of evidence-based practice, scientific rigour and clinical governance will be essential, alongside clear clinical guidelines and protocols and careful evaluation of emerging interventions.
Lifestyle Medicine provides many of the foundations for healthy ageing: nutrition, physical activity, restorative sleep, mental wellbeing, healthy relationships and reducing harmful substances. Equally important are effective behaviour change and recognition of the wider determinants of health that influence our ability to achieve and sustain good health.
Collaboration will be key. By sharing expertise, scrutinising the evidence and working constructively across professional boundaries, we can collectively raise standards and provide patients, professionals and the public with information they can trust.
BSLM looks forward to working collaboratively with UKSML and others in this evolving field, while ensuring evidence-based Lifestyle Medicine remains firmly at the heart of health optimisation.
