BSLM Learning Academy

The British Society of Lifestyle Medicine is launching a new Learning Academy as part of a national effort to improve health and wellbeing using lifestyle-based approaches.

The BSLM Learning Academy will support clinicians and other healthcare professionals to develop their skills, knowledge and expertise in lifestyle medicine through training, courses and CPD opportunities.

Our ambition is for the Academy to become the UK’s leading lifestyle medicine learning institution – and eventually to offer a place for the public to access information and advice about improving their health through lifestyle medicine.

But to get the Academy up and running BSLM needs the help of our members and the wider public.

So during Lifestyle Medicine Week, which this year takes place between May 30th – June 6th, we are asking people to ‘get set, go for BSLM!’

We need your help to raise £40,000 towards the cost of the Academy’s new Learning Management System.

The British Society of Lifestyle Medicine’s new executive director Fraser Quin said: “We’re busy putting in place our plans for the Learning Academy including the recent appointment of the company to develop our online Learning Management System. Meanwhile, a team of Learning Associates are already developing educational content.

“We can’t run a professional academy without a Learning Management System – so it is a crucial part of BSLM’s strategy to reach out to more groups, reduce health isolation and inequality, and develop a public facing project to maximise the positive impact on society.

“As a charity, sponsorship, donations and income from grants and trusts is of course vital, and our new office team is working hard to maximise these revenue streams.

“But because the Academy’s ultimate aim is to spread the wider health benefits of lifestyle medicine to the public – we are also seeking to generate some income from fundraising activities from our members’ networks and the wider public.

“As BSLM’s new executive director I want to try and lead by example, so am planning a 515-mile sponsored cycle ride around the north coast of Scotland over five days. I’m setting off on June 5th, and would welcome anyone who wants to join me for what promises to be a breath-taking journey following the North Coast 500 route.

“I do hope you could also consider a fundraiser of your own for BSLM. As 2021 also marks the fifth anniversary of BSLM why not give your challenge a five related theme? You could run five miles, walk for five hours or cycle 500 miles!

“Please do whatever you feel comfortable with (it may start with just #1change) and most importantly – don’t forget to tell us about it!”

If you’re able to support BSLM with a fundraising activity during Lifestyle Medicine Week, please give BSLM a mention on social media (use the hashtags #LMWeek, #1change and #lifestylemedicine) and get in touch with the BSLM office to tell us about your plans. All our social media accounts are now easily accessible via our Linktr.ee. Why not record a short video telling us what you’re doing and share it via social media?
