Lifestyle Medicine in PMOS (formerly PCOS): Six Pillars for Better Hormones and Metabolic Health

Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome (PMOS), formerly known as Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), is a complex condition affecting reproductive, metabolic and psychological health across the life course. The new name, introduced through a global consensus process in 2026, better reflects the multisystem endocrine, metabolic and ovarian features of the condition.¹

Lifestyle intervention is a fundamental part of management.² However, Lifestyle Medicine is much broader than weight loss or dietary advice alone. Nutrition, physical activity, restorative sleep, stress management, reducing harmful exposures and positive social connection can all contribute to better metabolic health, wellbeing and long-term health.

The BSLM Women’s Health SIG has developed this practical six-pillar resource to help healthcare professionals and women understand how
Lifestyle Medicine can be incorporated into PMOS care.

This resource is part of the BSLM Women’s Health SIG’s ongoing work to develop practical, evidence-informed Lifestyle Medicine resources for women’s health.
