I wanted to quickly update you on our evolving plans to organise a virtual lifestyle medicine conference this summer.

I understand that many of you will rightly be focused on other things at the moment. Our BSLM membership, of course, includes many of the clinicians and health professionals who are right now on the frontline when it comes to fighting the global COVID-19 pandemic. Our first thoughts are with you at this hugely challenging time.

I’ll try to be brief.

Our virtual conference will go ahead on the same dates we had planned to host our original event—June 24–26. We plan to feature as many of the same speakers, who will pre-record their video presentations.

Speakers will be available on the day to hear your feedback and take part in Q&A sessions.

We will be using apps called Attendify and Slido to host the conference and to facilitate online networking and discussion. We will provide further details on this in the coming weeks.

We understand many of you may not be available on the above dates to engage with the virtual content ‘as it happens’. Indeed, we are very mindful that many of you will be involved in difficult and challenging frontline service delivery for the foreseeable future.

So after June 26, all ticket-holders will still be able to access all conference content for a few months—so you can view this at a time of your choosing.

We do hope as many of you as possible will be able to join us between June 24–26 so you can provide real time feedback—and share your knowledge and experiences with each other. If that isn’t possible for you - we will make sure there are opportunities to do so after the conference.

- £150 BSLM members - £225 non-members - £30 medical students

If you had already booked a ticket for our planned London conference, this will automatically be exchanged for a virtual conference ticket and we will refund you the difference. Full refunds will also be available if you would prefer. For refunds email office@bslm.org.uk.

Our plan is to still host the IBLM lifestyle medicine certification exam at Twickenham Stadium in London on June 26. We will be keeping this under review as the situation with COVID-19 develops.

A second exam date will also now be held at Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh on October 24. Next year’s exam will be in June also in Edinburgh. Keep an eye on our website for certification updates.

We still want you to consider submitting your abstract poster presentations if possible. These will be hosted virtually during and after the conference.

Please bear with us as we put in place our revised virtual conference plans. This is new territory for us but we will make it happen—and ensure you can get out as much out of the virtual version as a ‘real world’ event. Needs must, and necessity is the mother of invention as they say.

I hope you and your loved ones remain well and safe.
